Winston Churchill said “Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.”

Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential

I love this quote.  It speaks to me as a great reminder to keep reaching for new things throughout life.

This quote is also helpful to me as a parent.  My daughter gets frustrated with her piano lessons at times, and this quote comes to mind as I try to help motivate her to keep going.  As the quote says, her achievements (musical and otherwise) depend so much on her dedication and determination, and not just a natural talent.   {See a related article on the PBS Parents website about helping children succeed.}

Children have the potential to do great things in so many areas of life.  They can’t all be the strongest or smartest, and they don’t have to be.  They just need to keep striving forward with their best efforts to achieve everything they can.  It’s a great thing to keep in mind when encouraging kids to do their best!
